VOESTALPINE DONAWITZ ORDERS FIFTH TRANSPORTER

19.04.2016

A long partnership connects Techne to the voestalpine steel mill in Donawitz in the Austrian region of Styria. Speciality steels are produced here. One such speciality is railway tracks, which can be manufactured according to specification at lengths up to 120 metres. The Slag Taurus P 40, which is currently being manufactured, is the fifth unit to be delivered to Donawitz. The payload is somewhat less than normal at approx. 35 to 40 tonnes, but due to the special ladle geometry – a request that makes the filled ladle unstable – the ladle centre of gravity comes very close to the centring pivot. Of course, Techne engineers found the perfect solution in the form of an additional hook, that equalises this condition and guarantees a safe and reliable operation of the equipment. The latest technology for off-road vehicles is being used for treating the exhaust gas, which is filtered to remove the majority of hazardous substances by using a particulate filter. Additionally, urea is injected for thermal and chemical cleaning. There are even rumours that this exhaust gas is cleaned so effectively that the air quality leaving the motor is better than the ambient air supplied into the motor for combustion! High-tech, environmentally friendly and safe in the steel mill has won over voestalpine Stahl once again.
