CRANES AND TRANSPORT CARS FOR THE LONDON UNDERGROUND

30.05.2017

April 2015 saw the launch of an extremely ambitious project for the London Underground. The order was for a complete switch laying system consisting of two Multi Tasker KRC 250s, eight Switch Tilter switch transport cars, and various lifting equipment and platforms for the support cars. The two cranes were designed to work largely in tandem, unloading the switch components from the switch transport car on the adjacent track and moving under their own power to the place where the switch is to be installed.

It was a particular challenge to adjust the vehicle dimensions to the unique profile of the London Underground. The customer also insisted upon stringent technical compliance with health and safety and fire protection rules, backed up by the verification process.

Before the vehicles are delivered, you can see the KRC 250 LUL and associated Switch Tilter for yourself from 30 May to 1 June 2017 at the International Exhibition for Track Technology (IAF). You will be surprised by just how much power these compact units can punch.
