SLAG TAURUS P 100 FOR ITALIAN STEELWORKS

22.05.2017

To increase capacity while reducing conversion costs, the Italian steelworks Acciaieria Arvedi S.p.A. invested in an EAF Quantum electric arc furnace. In turn, both the quality and volume of slag increased, necessitating the purchase of larger slag transporters.

To perform this difficult task, GAP SERVICES S.r.l., the transport service provider, acquired three Slag Taurus P 100s from TECHNE. The most challenging part of the project was to develop a concept for the vehicles that was not only safe and reliable, despite the cramped conditions, but which also had enough flexibility to cope as conditions change. So for this special case, an extremely compact version of the Slag Taurus P 100 was developed.

The resulting length, width and height dimensions are 12.3 m x 5.3 m x 4.9 m. The unit has a powerful 261 kW (350 hp) industrial engine. The payload of almost 100 tonnes plus the dead weight means the train has a total weight of 185 tonnes. The vehicles are in production now and are due for delivery in early 2018.
